Ami Patel is a senior policy analyst at The Hilltop Institute. As such, she supports work on general ledger data collection tools and conducts technical assistance communications to support data-driven rate setting for the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) Medicaid waiver services. Ami values the ability to support state programs in improving policy, coordination, and equity in aging and disability services.
Ami came to Hilltop with over a decade of state and federal public service experience. Most recently, Ami was as program analyst at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Community Living, where she led complex, multifaceted grant programs that engaged federal, state, and community-based organizations in enhancing operations, outcomes, and system processes to advance access to services for older adults and persons with disabilities. As such, Ami served as the subject matter expert for implementing and enhancing state sustainability strategies that generate Medicaid reimbursements for activities performed by aging and disability organizations across the country. She also led complex initiatives that advance policy objectives, improve service delivery, and support the development of sustainable, person-centered systems. Prior to that, Ami was an operations specialist and grant liaison for the Maryland Department of Aging, overseeing the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) program. There, she monitored grant operations for the state’s 20 ADRCs and managed the senior center capital improvements program while facilitating and developing training protocols to advance certifications of staff supporting Medicaid programs.
Ami graduated from UMBC with a bachelor’s degree in health administration and policy.
