Internships and Graduate Assistantships
Programming interns and graduate assistants help programmers, analysts, and directors with tasks such as performing data and statistical analysis; assisting with the development of Hilltop’s data warehouses; crafting data visualizations in Tableau®; validating data in the data warehouse and on visualizations; assisting with cybersecurity by analyzing and triaging reports from Hilltop staff regarding suspected malicious emails, including phishing; creating and monitoring intrusion detection reports in collaboration with the Hilltop data manager and UMBC Department of IT (DoIT); conducting literature reviews; attending project meetings and taking notes/minutes; and performing other ad hoc analysis and duties as assigned.
Successful candidates demonstrate a deep interest in and/or commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of people and communities, a strong interest in working with quantitative data, attention to detail, oral and written communication skills, experience with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), basic statistical training (at least an introductory course), and analytic skills (graduate assistant). UMBC students undertaking a master’s or PhD degree are eligible for assistantships, while motivated undergraduate or early graduate students are eligible for internships.
