As states increase oversight of health care mergers and acquisitions, timely data on post-transaction impacts remain difficult to obtain. In this new report, researchers from The Hilltop Institute and Georgetown University’s Center on Health Insurance Reforms explore how federal price transparency data can help state regulators monitor changes in negotiated health care prices following provider consolidation.
The report demonstrates how publicly available price transparency data can serve as a practical, low-cost tool for post-transaction monitoring and provides a proof-of-concept analysis of a recent hospital acquisition.
