Andrew (Andy) Smith, director of The Hilltop Institute's IT architecture and platform, is responsible for the management of the information technology functions within Hilltop and supervision of the IT staff. He oversees and coordinates efforts to manage, troubleshoot, and resolve computer systems problems.

Prior to joining Hilltop, Mr. Smith was chief technical officer for Vermont Technical College (VTC), where he directed IT activities at five locations. He was also responsible for the management of VTC's participation in a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation and help desk operations for 1700 users. Before that, Mr. Smith was director of information systems and web technology at Financial Executives International, a non-profit membership-based corporation in New Jersey. There he directed seven IT professionals, conducted IT audits, administered an ERP system, implemented best practices for network administration and website development, and managed help desk operations for 60 users. Mr. Smith also served as client engagement manager at Chubb Computer Services in New Jersey, as well as acquisitions editor at two technical publishing companies.

Mr. Smith obtained an M.S. in information systems from UMBC and a B.A. in physics from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
